Home Watch in Newport, RI
Tide & Timber looks after second and seasonal homes in Newport, RI while owners are away— for a season, a month, or a few weeks. Our team is based in Stonington, and we cover the city from the Point to Ocean Drive.
Harbor Houses and Summer Cottages
Newport is a harbor city, with sailboats on the water, shops and restaurants along Thames Street, and Cliff Walk and Ocean Drive close by. Its neighborhoods, from the Point to the Bellevue Avenue area, are full of older houses with old windows, basements, and plenty of salt air. Newport’s housing plan estimates that about 19 percent of the city’s housing units are not available year-round, mostly vacation homes and short-term rentals, so quiet houses are common outside summer.
The Point sits in a mapped flood zone, and older houses all over the city take wind and rain. We visit on a schedule through the quiet months, look at the windows, basements, and plumbing each time, and send photos so small changes get noticed early. When something needs work, we can meet a contractor at the house.
